I'm on my way to my 9th Tiki Caliente.
One more float done for the journey to Palm Springs next week.
After burning I went back in with a Dremel to expose the bare wood in the deep portions.
A small brush and three different colors of blue.

I did a bit more finishing on this panel.
I only found out three weeks ago that I was going to Tiki Caliente as I was on a waiting list.
I did "Webster" about three years ago.
Made from purple heart wood, this one has been a hard sell. I had retired him from vending because of the heavy weight and lack of interest but I am bringing him to Caliente next week. I figure he is a good October tiki.
Things are changing and getting more fall like on Frog Island.
Also worked this large and heavy slit gong looking ash log.
The back is kind of serpent looking.
It is a take on an ancient drum from the Micronesian area.
They could communicate from island to island by pounding on them with sticks. This ash piece is hard enough that it actually sounds good and really resonates sound.
A long way to go, but I'll finish it this year.

Also worked on a limited edition screen print for "Skootiki: Mods and Gods" that will be here in July. It will feature tiki art and Lambretta scooters of which there is some kind of connection ( ? ) I had a blast at last year's event and am looking forward to this one. Of course I will have carved tikis as well. Will let you know on the opening day. Come on down-it's worth it.

Been busy with more shameless self promotion lately and hopped onto the "Tiki Central" bandwagon. It is a forum that encompasses everything tiki from carvings, paintings, destination spots, history, exotic drinks, etc. It has taken me about a year to sort through it and figure things out but I did it. Also heard from Joe at Elroy Artspace today and I'm in for this years' tiki show. It will be in July.

Getting burned out on carving and need to get painting. The varnish that I use is great for outdoor use but requires many coats and months of drying time. Just waiting for 50 degree weather. Thanks to the many people that actually follow progress on this blog. I can't believe the power of the internet and am fascinated by the world-wide reach of it all. Although 90% of the hits come from the good ol' U.S. I get hits from Canada, China, the Dominican Republic, Denmark, United Kingdom, Germany, Luxenbourg, Latvia, (I bet there are NO tikis in Latvia.
